The journal IchthyologicalExplorationofFreshwaters (IEF) isnow in its25th
year of publication by Verlag Dr. Friedrich Pfeil in Munich, and it goes
without saying thatwehave a complete set, from the first issueon, in the
editorialoffice.Although it isapurelyscientific journal -scientificpaperson
freshwater fishes - it stands out from all other comparable periodicals
currently available as being particularly interesting for enthusiastic
freshwater aquarists. Four issues appear every year. Over the past quarter
century a large number of important aquarium fishes have been
scientifically described in the IEF, including such fabulous fishes as
Hypancistrus zebra
(L46),
Apistogramma norberti
,
Betta brownorum,
Hypsolebiasmagnificus, Indostomuscrocodilus,Dariohysginon,
etc,etc,etc.
In recognition of the IEF we will briefly summarize here the works

typical breams and hence not yet

southern Anatolia, Turkey (Teleostei:
regarded as threatened with extinction, as

includes a completely blind cave form.The
majority of species grow to 6-10 cm and
